Date: Sept. 21, 2023 Time: 7:00 PM PT Youtube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lKYm6QBE-Q Two eclipses are crossing over most of the U.S. in the next few months! The first is an Annular Eclipse on Oct. 14, 2023, and the second will be a Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. An eclipse can be an awe-inspiring celestial event that drastically changes the appearance of the two biggest objects in our sky: the Sun and Moon. It also gives us the opportunity to study our Sun, Earth, and our space environment. Join us for a live discussion on how eclipses happen, the different types of eclipses we can see, what we can learn from them, and how ...
This free, virtual lecture will occur on Thursday, September 28, 2023, 7:00-8:00 PM, ET. Registration is required for this event. The largest program in Hubble’s history, the Ultraviolet Legacy Library of Young Stars as Essential Standards (ULLYSES) , is laying the groundwork to understand the impact that young stars have on their environments, from the early universe to potentially habitable worlds. Understanding ultraviolet (UV) emission of high and low mass young ...
Cosmic passion through night camps – J’pura Astronomy Club J’pura Astronomy Club is an organization consisting of astronomical enthusiasts from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. We possess more than 1,000 active members among various faculties and we are one of the most prominent undergraduate circles inside the institution. The whole of the students is eligible to be a member of the club within their academic years. The club is led by an executive committee of members and division heads with the guidance of senior treasurer Dr. (Mrs.) Lilani Attygalle. Currently, the J’pura Astronomy Club undertakes numerous efforts to popularize ...

My name is Jeff Gray I am the Outreach Coordinator for the Orange Country Astronomers. I put on day time school video presentations Girl Scouts Cub Scouts camp out's. At night we set up a Dwarf ll Smart telescope. Using a state of the art laser projector we then project the live stacked images. This method has work out very well with large crowds.
I had to share this image! Beautiful, isn't it? You can find the image credits below the photo. Moon Meets Jupiter (APOD: 2023 Aug 08) Credit & Copyright: Jordi L. Coy https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap230808.html Repost with unannotated image Explanation: What's that below the Moon? Jupiter -- and its largest moons. Many skygazers across planet Earth enjoyed the close conjunction of Earth's Moon passing nearly in front of Jupiter in mid-June. The featured image is a single exposure of the event taken from Morón de la Frontera, Spain. The sunlit lunar crescent on the left is overexposed, while the Moon's night side, on the ...
This Thursday, August 3, 2023, we will start a series of online workshops (in Hebrew) dealing with the creation of images using artificial intelligence on space and astronomy topics. The workshops are intended for members of the Horizon community in Israel, which brings together hundreds of teachers of space and astronomy in Israel. The goals of the workshops: Teach students to use artificial intelligence tools to create images. To make the students deepen their knowledge of space and astronomy so that they can write good prompts for the image creation software to improve the students' written expression ability. Stay tuned for further reports...
Yesterday, July 31, 2023, I held an online workshop in Hebrew on "astronomical photography using a smartphone". The workshop/lecture was intended for the Horizon community, which includes hundreds of teachers of space and astronomy in Israel. We are planning a follow-up workshop in the field, where we will actually examine what we learned in the first workshop. Many thanks to everyone who was involved in the creation of the original workshop from the various international organizations. We believe that astronomical photography using a smartphone can make students more interested in the fields of astronomy and physics. Stay tuned for further reports...

The Milky Way

The last time I saw the Milky Way was about 20 years ago while visiting a family member who lives north of Los Angeles on the coast. My family and I were sitting outside engaged in light conversation. I was enjoying the view of the sky which was filled with stars, something I never see in my city anymore..Seeing the Milky Way was an incredible treat. Although very faint, it was beautiful to see again. Can you spot the Milky Way in your city? Have any stories or photos to share about seeing the Milky Way? When is the last time you had an opportunity to view it? Here is a link to very good video of the Milky Way created by Barry Chall on Youtube.com. ...
If you enjoy Citizen Science projects, please read the following article provided by NASA. NASA Funds 3 Citizen Science Projects to Study 2024 U.S. Solar Eclipse NASA has awarded funding for three science teams to conduct citizen science investigations as a total solar eclipse sweeps across North America on April 8, 2024 . In these experiments, volunteers will help study the Sun and its ethereal outer atmosphere, called the corona, which is revealed when the Moon completely covers the Sun’s bright disk. “During next year’s total eclipse, hundreds of volunteers will capture images of the Sun and its corona to help answer real science question ...
One activity I enjoy is creating time lapses with the Canon 100D at our observation site in Ramillies, after sunset and until the Milky Way appears. Because the exposure time is very different according to the brightness of the sky. There are fewer pictures at the end because they take more time. We have visitors who are curious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF0GrRCT4yY

My drawing about the universe, stars, and galaxies. I drew this out of my passion and love towards astronomy and space in general. I drew this in my free time last summer vacation, since I'm a middle school student. I'm looking forward to make something bigger. and deeper. Hopefully it would be a surprise for you all. I had to resize this to go with the blog post policy, so unfortunately some details were lost. I draw it on a canvas with acrylic colors. #art #GAM2023
