Hello I am Johannes Stübler, AWB-National-Coordinator of Austria. I am starting my tour “From Orient to Occident-One People, One Sky” on 23.4.2010. I will travell together with my wife with my astro-equipped campervan to some arabic countries. I will do some astronomic observations on the fly and will try to get some contacts to people of Turkey, Syria and Jordan by sharing the fascination of our sky – One People, One Sky. I have established some contacts to official astronomic societies and organisations and I have got some invitations to talk there about AWB and what we are doing. During this 6 week-journey I will proudly play the role as an “Ambassador” of Astronomers Without Borders. I will deliver AWB’s mission and goal to foster understanding and goodwill across national and cultural boundaries by creating relationships through the universal appeal of astronomy. Doing this trip should represent a kind of bow to the importance of Arabic countries and their historic influence on astronomy appreciating the fact that Arabic countries are some of the most important cradles of astronomy. I will report about my journey on our website.

This is Fantastic! Kudos to this Duo... Ulrike & Johannes!

(P.S. remember to take the Dark-sky message to reduce light pollution with you
Can you bring along a banner that can be signed by all you meet to bring back the MilkyWay for children of all generations to preserve their heritage of a starry night sky?

You make a very good point Audrey. I know that AWB and GAM don't have a specific mandate to protect our night sky. However, without our night sky preserved, and hopefully restored to their state of yesteryear, events like 100 Hours of Astronomy and GAM will have less and less impact on the people around us.
