Dear AWB folk: We're very happy to announce the launch of the AWB Remote Observing project. The aim of this project is to give AWB groups around the world free online access to remote telescopes. The goals are to have groups control the remote telescopes, share these observing sessions with other groups, and carry out observing projects in collaboration with other groups.
To launch this project, AWB is teaming up with Dr. Gianluca Masi of the Virtual Telescope to hold an online observing event at the Virtual Telescope on Sept 22, from 19:00 to 21:00 UT.
During this session, Gianluca will show celestial objects such as planets, comets, asteroids, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies, with live commentary. This event is free and open to AWB Affiliates and interested individuals. All you need is a computer (with speakers for the audio commentary) and an internet connection.
To register for the event, and to find out how to take part, please visit this page. (http://www.astronomerswithoutborders.org/index.php/news/news-flash/143-first-awb-observing-event.html)
This event will show the excitement and power of online remote observing, and will lead the way for future events.
In the event of poor weather, the event will be rescheduled for Sept 25, from 19:00 to 21:00 UT.
If you have any questions or problems, please email Gianluca and Terry at: remoteobs@astronomerswithoutborders.org
