How to Use the AWB Gallery
Viewing Gallery Pictures
• You don’t need to be logged in to view the Gallery pictures
• Click on GALLERY on the top menu
• Under Categories on the main Gallery page, you will see various main Categories, each with a thumbnail image (e.g. IYA, Astronomical Pictures, Educational Activities, Equipment, Projects, Starparties).
• Click on any of these main Categories, and you will see Sub-Categories each with its own thumbnail image, a title, and description.
• Click on any of the Sub-Categories, and you will see thumbnails of the images in that Sub-Category. Below each thumbnail, you will see a link to download that image, or to add the image to your Favourites. Clicking on “Start CoolIris!” on the left-hand side will start a slideshow.
• If you click on an image thumbnail, you will see a larger version of the image, and again you can download or favourite the image.
o Above the image, click on the arrow below “SlideShow” to start a slideshow of all images, or “Previous”/”Next” to cycle through the images one at a time.
o Below the image you will see Picture Information (date, # of hits, rating, size, and author), Picture Rating (to vote on the picture), Share this image in Forums, Comments for this picture (to enter a comment), and Send to Friend (to send the image to an email address).
Uploading Pictures to the Gallery
• You need to be logged into the AWB site to upload pictures to the Gallery
• Once you are logged in, click on GALLERY on the top menu
• Now click on User Panel on the left-hand side
• You will see all of your pictures below the middle of the page, with the following information: Picture Name, # of hits, and Category. Under Action, you can edit the picture or delete it.
• You will see New Picture, Categories, and New Category in the middle of the page. We will go through each of these in turn:
o Categories will show all of the categories that you have created (see below under New Category). Under Action, you can edit the category details, or remove the category—note that a Category cannot be removed until all the pictures in that category are deleted.
o New Category will let you create a new category. You should make a new category for each new image gallery that you upload.
• Click on New Category, and enter a Title, a Parent Category where your new category will go under (select the Parent Category from the pull-down menu), a Description of your gallery, whether you want to publish this gallery (ie. make it publicly viewable—select No or Yes from the pulldown menu beside Published. Normally you will select Yes), and the Ordering of your gallery.
• Once finished, click on Save to save your selections and create the new gallery.
o New Picture allows you to upload pictures to any Category that you have created.
• When you click on New Picture, you will see at the top Upload Quota, which tells you how the maximum size per picture (currently 400K), the maximum number of pictures you can upload (currently 500), the number of pictures you have already uploaded, and how many pictures that you can still upload.
• Enter a Title for your images (which will be seen immediately below your image thumbnail), a Category to upload your pictures to (you should have already created your Category in the step above), and a Description of your gallery (which will be seen below each thumbnail).
• Then you can upload up to 15 pictures at one time (click on Browse to find each picture on your computer)—if you have more than 15 pictures to upload, you’ll have to repeat New Picture for each group of 15 pictures. Click on Upload at the bottom to upload the images—be patient, it may take some time for the images to be uploaded, especially if they are large.
