I think its time this website gets active with sharing observing reports with it members. We can all benefit from reading what each of us has been observing and its fun to share the experience. Here's a report from December 3rd 2011 at the 90 Millimeter Observatory in Harleysville, PA, USA.
The night started out clear but cold, around 36 degrees F. I setup my 120mm refractor for a few quick views of Jupiter and a couple of deep sky objects. At 38x Jupiter and the four bright moons filled the eyepiece, I could see the North and South EQ bands and a little shading toward the North polar region. Dropping in my 9mm eyepiece (111x) the markings on the surface became a little more detailed but the seeing wasn't very good at this power.
Next I looked at the open cluster M35. At 38x this cluster is a awesome view. I counted over 75 stars most appeared blue or blue-white. All of a sudden the stars began to fade. A quick look at the sky and the clouds were rolling in. End of night.
Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.
Clear Skies,
