Eyes on the Sky: Jan 30 thru Feb 5

Uploaded By: David Fuller. Added on: 30 January 2012.

Description

See what's up in the night sky during the week of January 30 through February 5. The "Winter Circle" (or Hexagon) of Capella, Aldebaran, Rigel, Sirius, Procyon, Pollux and Castor is highlighted, along with a tour of distances and sizes of some of these stars. Collinder 70 can be found with binoculars in Orion, and the open cluster M41 is near to the northern hemisphere's brightest star, Sirius. The ecliptic is given some attention, as Venus, Jupiter and the Moon make points on this imaginary line running through the area of the sky that shows where all the planets can be found during winter. Also highlighted: Where to find Mars and Saturn.
