Babak A. Tafreshi is a science journalist with a primary focus on astronomy and space science. He has been an editor of the Astronomy Magazine of Iran (Nojum) since 1996 and the magazine's editor-in-chief since 2005. He is the founder of The World At Night (TWAN) international astrophotography project. He has been on several television and radio programs on astronomy and has met and interviewed many world-renowned astronomers and space scientists. He has been a board member of the Astronomical Society of Iran's Amateur Committee since 2001 and has organized and directed many national astronomy events including the annual Iran Messier Marathon. He his also an astronomy educator and was an instructor at Zafaranie Observatory in Tehran from 1997 to 2006.

Babak is a professional photographer specializing in images of the night sky with foregrounds of natural landscape and historic architecture. His work has been exhibited in Iran and several European countries and has appeared in international astronomy magazines and on NASA web sites. He regularly gives presentations during trips to solar eclipse sites around the world and has traveled to all the continents including Antarctica. His web site, Dreamview, has also generated contacts with astrophotographers worldwide.
